Monsoon home maintenance checklist — what to fix in May, not in July

Roof seepage, blocked drains and damp walls are far cheaper to prevent in May than to repair in the middle of the rains. Eight jobs, who to book for each, and what they cost.

The South-West monsoon reaches Kerala in the first week of June and the rest of the South within a fortnight. Masons, plumbers and electricians are easiest to book — and dry weather is guaranteed — in the last three weeks of May. Use them.

Outside the house

  • Terrace: clear the rainwater outlets and check the parapet for cracks — mason, ₹600 – ₹1,000 a day.
  • Waterproofing: re-coat the terrace or a leaking bathroom slab — waterproofing, quoted per sq ft.
  • Overhead tank: clean and check the lid and overflow pipe — plumber / tank cleaning, ₹700 – ₹1,500.
  • Trees: trim branches touching the roof or power lines — gardener, ₹400 – ₹700.

Inside the house

  • Earth and RCCB test, outdoor sockets covered — electrician, ₹300 – ₹500.
  • Window seals and door bottoms — carpenter, ₹400 – ₹800.
  • Drains and kitchen line flushed before the first downpour — plumber, ₹400 – ₹900.
  • Inverter battery level and ventilation — electrician, part of the same visit.

Book once, not eight times

Post one service request on Hi-Partner describing the whole list; a mason who works with a plumber and electrician will often quote the lot. You pay each worker directly, and the chat keeps every price on record.
